The purpose of Christian education is to help the church achieve its purposes. The teaching ministry brings together the two great truths contained in the apostle's description of the church: "We who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us" (Romans 12:5,6, NIV). We have individual gifts or abilities to contribute, but we belong to each other as a Body. Because of the prevalence of individualism in our society we tend to think of education primarily as a means of helping each person learn and develop potential. In reality, Christian education does this and also promotes the efficiency of the church in its Great Commission ministry. We aim to help develop individual gifts and then blend them together in a dynamic whole. Teaching helps people understand and express Christianity and thus become proficient in "putting together the pieces" that make complete the ministry of the church: Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, Evangelism, and Service.
